The Peoples Platform is in full swing, and the influence of Springfield Tenants Unite is undeniable. On January 17th, 2025, advocates joined PROMO, Missouri Jobs with Justice (JwJ), and STUN at Springfield’s south side Library Center. From signing petitions on STUN’s Right to Council Initiative to participating in Sarah Barnts’ group yoga, Springfieldians were offered an opportunity to build community towards the shared goal of equitable policy.
Saturday afternoon’s activities began with poetry by Mar the Ghost and Rex Ybañez, anchoring community members to creative vision and social justice. Other speakers offered avenues to engage within advocacy initiatives, one of which is the Springfield Tenants Unite “Launchpad Initiative:" a collegiate-focused mobilization team that aims to activate young people towards housing justice in the Springfield area.
The invigorating day of activation and solidarity closed with a chant designed by an attendee, calling for legislation that is “for the people, by the people.” To achieve this powerful sentiment, our efforts will require a unified vision throughout election season and beyond. You can stay updated on more calls to action by following the STUN social media and regularly checking our Action Network profile!
